Hi Reader
Well here we are again. It is 2021 and we are more cautious about celebrating things than we have been in the past.
While here in Australia we have few cases of the virus and little community transmission, that is not the case for our teacher colleagues in other countries.
Down here in southern parts our schools are opening up for face to face teaching. Teachers are going back into the classroom and so are the students. And we are all hoping that we avoid another wave.
For the rest of you, most are teaching remotely. Australian and NZ teachers became very good at that, as they spent most of the year doing it. Thankfully there are many more resources available now than there were this time last year.
Wherever you are and whatever mode you are teaching in, know that what you achieved in 2020 was remarkable. We learnt some really important lessons about what is most important in teaching students and we need to ensure that politicians and bureaucrats don't force you all back into outdated models of school.
One of the most exciting aspects of 2020 was the rise in virtual global staff-rooms. Teachers were able to communicate directly with colleagues in other countries. They were able to share resources and pedagogy in timely fashion and there is nothing that can stop that from continuing. We are looking forward to expanding those networks into the future.
Which brings us to our good news.
GUESS WHAT?!
Only a few days left until the release of the first episode of the World Lit podcast!!
Set time aside to listen in!
A project that began with a vision to create a new dawn for progressive education across the globe has finally materialised into the podcast that we’re proud to present to you this coming Friday, the 29th of January @ 3pm (Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne time)
We have been talking about it for a while and now it is here, which is just a bit scary really. The first episode is Judy and I talking about the focus for season 1 Deconstructing Literature. No one who has been listening to us for any length of time will be surprised by that. I have been known to go on about it.
Already we have teachers from Ireland, Singapore and New Zealand recorded and the episodes will be released each fortnight from January the 29th.
The podcast will be available to you on all mobile devices including smartphones, computers and tablets and will be streaming on Apple iTunes, Spotify [etc..] You can also find it on our website.
Make sure to like, subscribe and share with all your literature loving friends!
We can’t wait to share with you one of our greatest initiatives to date as part of the We Teach Well commitment to education and growth. See you soon!
If you or any of your teacher friends would come and be a guest on the podcast, to talk about the literature of their country we would be delighted. We can be contacted by replying to this email or on the chat function on the website.
Cheers
Carolyn and Judy
ps. We have made some changes to our future offerings that will provide better services to teachers. We will tell you more about that in coming missives.
Well, here we are. The end of 2020. And still the craziness isn't over for so many people around the world. While here in Australia we are gaining confidence that we have beaten the Covid-19 virus, there are hundreds of thousands of new cases in other parts of the world. Teachers and school leaders, you are amazing. Truly amazing. What you have done this year, the way you have moved to a new format for teaching and managed to keep your students supported and learning over simultaneous...
